Weekend with Brian/Helen in Dallas.

Here are some pics from my weekend with Brian and Helen. A few months ago before Pat Monahan started the tour he was practicing some of his new songs in small NYC bars. Helen and her sisters just happened to be at the right place at the right time and catch a short show. After that particular show Pat, Luis and Jerry were milling about asking for opinions on the new songs and such and struck up a conversation with Helen and company. They were gracious enough to give them some after show passes for the Dallas concert. When I mentioned I wanted to go B&H wasted no time in finding me a flight and using their miles to get me to Dallas.(Thanks for the weekend!) It was a good show and nice to get a little glimpse into what must be a hectic lifestyle.

Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust

Here are some pics from yesterdays spreading of our parents ashes. They wanted them to be spread in Harpers Ferry off of Jefferson Rock overlooking the Shenandoah River. Leslie also wrote the lyrics to the Bruce Springsteen song, 'Across the Border' and tore that into little pieces to go with the ashes. This song was important in that she and dad played it over and over a few days before he passed. He was playing harmonica and she guitar. The lyrics also bring to mind that they will be together again. We had been somewhat avoiding this task for whatever reason but as it turned out dads birthday was yesterday and there was a break in the weather so we decided to go at the last minute. This ended up being a nice experience and not sad in the least. As always when hanging with Leslie there will be laughter and I think mom and dad would have wanted it that way. Ellie and Sheila also made the experience that much better. Dad never got a chance to know them but I'm certain he would have loved em both.

Across the Border

-------------------

Tonight my bag is packed.

Tomorrow I'll walk these tracks.

That'll lead me across the border.

Tomorrow my love and I.

Will sleep 'neath auburn skies.

Somewhere across the border.

We'll leave behind my dear.

The pain and sadness we found here.

And we'll drink from the Bravo's muddy waters.

Where the sky grows grey and white.

We'll meet on the other side.

There across the border.

For you I'll build a house.

High up on a grassy hill.

Somewhere across the border.

Where pain and memory.

Pain and memory have been stilled.

There across the border.

And sweet blossoms fill the air.

Pastures of gold and green.

Roll down into cool clear waters.

And in your arms 'neath open skies.

I'll kiss the sorrow from your eyes.

There across the border.

Tonight we'll sing the songs.

I'll dream of you my corazon.

And tomorrow my heart will be strong.

And may the saints' blessings and grace.

Carry me safely into your arms.

There across the border.

For what are we.

Without hope in our hearts.

That someday we'll drink from God's blessed waters.

And eat the fruit from the vine.

I know love and fortune will be mine.

Somewhere across the border.

Blackwater Falls

We rented a small cabin up in Blackwater Falls State Park(Davis, West Virginia) for the weekend. The deer for the most part are not afraid of people. This place rates 5 starts in the Scott rating system.
